What VPS hosting gives you

Shared hosting puts hundreds of sites on one server and gives each a small, fenced-off corner. A VPS gives you a complete virtual machine instead. It has its own kernel, its own memory and its own disk, and it behaves exactly like a physical server that happens to live inside a larger one.

That means you choose the operating system, install any software, open the ports you need and run processes that never stop. Websites, APIs, databases, game servers, trading terminals and automation tools all run comfortably on a well sized VPS.

Compared with a dedicated server, a VPS starts far cheaper, deploys from an image instead of a hardware order, and resizes without moving to new hardware. For most projects it is the point where hosting stops getting in the way.

KVM virtualization, explained

KVM, short for Kernel-based Virtual Machine, is built into the Linux kernel and turns the host into a hypervisor. Each VPS runs as a full virtual machine with its own kernel, which is why you can run Windows, load kernel modules, use Docker, set up WireGuard and change system settings that container-based hosting blocks.

Older container platforms such as OpenVZ share one kernel between every customer on the host. They are cheaper to run, but one neighbor can affect another and many tools simply do not work. Every VPS Lane server is a true KVM virtual machine.

  • Your own kernel, so modules, sysctl tweaks and custom kernels work
  • Any operating system the hardware supports, including Windows Server
  • Hard limits on memory and disk, so another customer cannot eat into yours
  • Support for Docker, Kubernetes distributions and VPN software out of the box

NVMe storage on every plan

NVMe drives connect over PCIe instead of the older SATA interface, which lets them handle far more reads and writes in parallel. On a busy server that shows up as faster database queries, quicker package installs, shorter backup windows and pages that render without waiting on disk.

Some providers advertise SSD storage and quietly use SATA drives, or reserve NVMe for premium plans. Here the smallest plan and the largest plan share the same NVMe storage, so the only thing that changes as you scale is how much of it you get.

Self-managed hosting, with clear lines

Every plan is self-managed. That keeps prices low and gives you full control. Here is who looks after what.

Cheap VPS hosting without the catch

A low price should come from efficient operations, not from cutting what you receive. Very cheap VPS offers often oversell CPU so heavily that your cores sit waiting, cap disk speed, or charge separately for an IPv4 address.

The smallest plan here starts at $6 a month and still includes NVMe storage, a dedicated IPv4 address, IPv6 and snapshots. Plans scale by doubling resources, so you can start small and move up when your traffic does.

Bandwidth and traffic

Each plan includes a monthly traffic allowance, shown on the plan slider above. Inbound traffic does not count toward it. A typical business website with a few thousand visitors a day uses a small fraction of even the smallest allowance.

If you serve large downloads, video or backups to many users, pick a plan with a larger allowance or put a CDN in front of the server so repeated files are delivered from the edge.

VPS hosting questions

What is the difference between VPS hosting and shared hosting?

On shared hosting, many sites share one server and its resources, and you can only change what the control panel allows. A VPS gives you guaranteed resources and a whole operating system that you control, so performance is steadier and you can install anything.

Is a VPS the same as a cloud server?

The terms overlap. Both are virtual machines on shared physical hardware. Here, a VPS is a KVM virtual machine with fixed resources and a predictable monthly price.

Do I get root access?

Yes. Linux servers come with root access over SSH, and Windows servers come with the Administrator account over Remote Desktop.

Can I upgrade my VPS later?

Yes. Move to a larger plan when you need more CPU, memory or storage. Your data and IP address stay with the server.

Is my VPS managed?

Plans are self-managed. We look after the hardware, network and hypervisor, and you look after the software inside your server.
