Which Linux distribution should you pick?

Ubuntu is the most common starting point, with the largest pool of guides and the widest package support. Debian is close behind and favors stability, which suits long running servers you rarely touch.

AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux are the community successors to CentOS and match the Red Hat world, which is what you want if your software ships RPM packages or your team knows that ecosystem. All of them are free and available on every plan.

Getting started after deploy

Your welcome email lists the IP address and login. Connect over SSH, then spend the first few minutes locking the server down before you install anything.

Our guide walks through creating a user, adding your SSH key, turning off password logins and switching on the firewall.

Linux VPS questions

Which distributions can I install?

Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux and other common images, selectable at deploy and reinstallable from the client area.

Do I get root access?

Yes. Every Linux server comes with full root access over SSH.

Can I use my own SSH key?

Yes. Add your public key at deploy or paste it in later. Key based login is the recommended way to sign in.

Is it managed?

Servers are self-managed. You control the operating system and software, and we run the hardware, network and hypervisor.
